The 2009-2010 Season for the Allott (pairs) and Troughers (teams) events is now under way. Chris Malthouse is the organiser and is always ready to welcome new participants.
Troughers
is the name applied to our Saturday Night Events, which are held on the
second Saturday of each month at the Townsend Memorial Hall in Clifton. The
Troughers is a friendly, social occasion where the bridge is preceded by a
meal. The meal is contributed by the participants with each player bringing
a small item of food. Co-ordination of the contributions is organised by
Janet Chappell and Anne Carrington. The bridge event started as a Teams
Competition where each pair is matched with another pair, selected by a
draw. The draw is seeded so that an "expert" pair is matched with an
"improver" pair and everyone can feel that they have an equal chance of
winning as each pair brings with them a handicap. Handicaps are worked out
by our Chairman, Chris Malthouse. Participation by all members of the Club
is encouraged, come along and join in, it is a great social occasion.
The original Teams Event was played for the Troughers Trophy. By popular demand a more recent event for a Pairs Competition was introduced and this is played for the Allott Trophy. The Troughers and Allott events alternate through the year, The next event is on Saturday 8th May, get yourselves signed up with Chris Malthouse.
